Turkey achieved a great success in iron and steel exports in 2022. The country’s iron and steel sector broke the record in this field with exports of $ 21.1 billion. The share of iron and steel exports in the national economy was 8.3%.
Turkey’s iron and steel sector gained great momentum in 2022 thanks to the increase in global demand as well as the focus on strategic markets. Turkish iron and steel products, a critical raw material for many industries such as construction, automotive, white goods and energy, brought huge revenue to the country by meeting demand worldwide.
In 2022, Turkey’s iron and steel exports recorded a 15 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This is recognised as an indicator of the sector’s competitiveness in the international arena. Turkey’s Economy Minister described this success as “a result of Turkey’s commitment to productivity, quality and innovation”.
Turkey’s iron and steel export targets for next year are quite high. Exporters aim to achieve further growth and increase competitiveness in 2023. Investments to increase the sustainability and efficiency of the sector are expected to further increase the importance of iron and steel exports.
As a result, Turkey’s iron and steel exports reached an important milestone in 2022, making a major contribution to the country’s economy. In 2023, the sector is expected to continue its growth trend and Turkey will maintain its competitiveness at the international level in the field of iron and steel.
